Jayden Eric Beaudoin's musical adventures have taken him from his home province of British Columbia to perform across Canada and internationally with groups such as the Vancouver Metropolitan Opera and Royal City Musical Theatre; the Windsor, Hamilton, Thunder Bay, London, and International Symphony Orchestras; as part of the military bands of the Ceremonial Guard, 15th Field Artillery, Royal Hamilton Light Infantry, and Royal Canadian Artillery; and with the Bathurst Chamber Music Festival, C2 Entertainment, as a street performer, and with many others.
Jayden's musical education began in 2005 at Douglas College and was completed at the University of British Columbia in 2011, where he acquired his Bachelors of Music. While attending Douglas College, he acquired a flair for musical theatre, which led him to play in many productions across Canada including Grease, Annie, West Side Story, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and The Wizard of Oz. During his time at the University of British Columbia, he spent an increasing amount of time focusing on mallet percussion, which became instrumental in shaping his future ambitions and opportunities. While completing his Masters of Music at the University of Western Ontario from 2012-14, Jayden also received a certificate in University Teaching and Learning. During this time, he was a finalist Maritsa Ateena Brookes Concerto Competition as well as the London Music Scholarship Foundation Competition. Through these, he was able to simultaneously create the first recording with orchestra and give the Canadian Premiere of Casey Cangelosi's Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra No. 2, which he played with the University of Western Ontario Orchestra. After graduating, he maintained an active role in the university music community as the music director for both the Western Chamber Music Jazz Band and the Western Marching Band, as percussion instructor for the New Horizons Adult Band, as the Undergraduate Admissions Assistant, and has also given numerous formal presentations with the Music Educator Students' Association and to the University of Western Ontario student composers. In addition to this, he has been an active military musician since 2009 when he joined the Band of the Ceremonial Guard, which performs daily during the Summer on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario. Through various military bands, he has been seen on international television, appeared in newspapers, and performed throughout Canada. Internationally, he has been deployed overseas to London, England, where he played at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, and on Horse Guards Parade, some of which were attended by Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh, as well as Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth. He has also provided musical support on a number of deployments for commemorations, most notably in France for the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge and the 75th anniversary of D-Day. Jayden has also been featured as a soloist with the University of British Columbia Percussion Ensemble, University of British Columbia Symphonic Wind Ensemble, 15th Field Artillery Band, Royal Hamilton Light Infantry Band, University of Western Ontario Percussion Ensemble, and with the University of Western Ontario Orchestra, where conductor Alain Trudel hailed him as 'one of the most talented new percussionists on the professional scene'. Apart from performance, Jayden has worked extensively in music administration and production. His roles have included librarian, personnel manager, operations coordinator, stage manager, box office manager, undergraduate admissions assistant, assistant production manager, instrument coordinator, audio engineer, composer, and arranger. He has also held a position as an executive board member for the London Musicians Association, and currently works in the public relations department for the Royal Canadian Artillery Band. As a published photographer, Jayden enjoys shooting a wide variety of subjects. Just as with music, his eclectic tastes mean he is equally comfortable photographing landscapes, portraits, and products, but he feels most at home when capturing memorable moments during concerts and events. In 2018, Jayden created the Marg Beaudoin Memorial Scholarship at Douglas College in memory of his mother, who passed away suddenly in 2017. This endowment came into effect in September 2020 and will continue into perpetuum. Currently, Jayden is an active musician and photo/videographer in and around Edmonton, Alberta. He leads the Blue Bar Band, is employed full-time with the Royal Canadian Artillery Band, and actively performs with the Sticks and Stone Marimba Band, the C-Jam Big Band, as a street musician, as a guest performer with a variety of other ensembles, creates his own music and videos which he shares on BandCamp and YouTube, and is consistantly engaged in a number of other projects. Jayden's hobbies are as eclectic as his music and visual work. He is consistently exploring the connections between history, politics, economics, urban design, infrastructure, and geography, as well as the relationships between geology, evolution, biology, behavior, environment, and physics. He enjoys many outdoor activities including hiking, rock climbing, running, cycling, and camping. |
