2023 Nov 04 - On my attachment to furniture

After spending so many months with distance from negative media and the general maladies of life, I find it interesting and saddening how many people focus on things which are inadequate or lacklustre. I've noticed that there are some people who routinely share things which slant negatively, or their reaction is consistently a negative one. They seem to be perpetually upset. They don't seem to offer constructive solutions. To say nothing of "the news".

There are so many things outside of our control. So many things we could use our time and energy on, and I can no longer spend my finite time and energy focused and vexxed on negative energy. Yes, politics are in a sad state of affairs, and yes, there are calamities and hardships in the world. Can I realistically impact them by sharing and commenting on social media? Maybe, but I think it's only possible with an approach which acknowledges the opposing side and comes with solutions or suggestions on how to improve things. Attacks and belittling will not win friends, nor will it convince anyone to join your side.

Life is happier when I focus on the immediate issues in my life. I can make a much more tangible, positive, and immediate impact in these areas. And it's much more rewarding.

My mom used to tell me that if I don't have anything nice to say I shouldn't say anything at all. I don't completely agree with this, but there are definitely better and worse ways to voice your concerns. Constructive criticism is not bad. It seeks reasonable actions and compromise, while complaining demands that someone else take full responsibility and refuses to make a concession.

I'm not perfect in this matter by any means, but I hope that my awareness leads to accountability and improvements.

I specialize in photographing concerts and events, but also love to shoot sports, headshots, portraits, products, and weddings.   Each of these genres offers me unique and enjoyable challenge.   My work has been included in marketing for clients such as Sennheiser microphones, Attack Drumheads, and EnergyOne.  I'm grateful to be able to connect with diverse audiences from a variety of backgrounds.
Based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, I enjoy travelling worldwide to play music, take photos, and for leisure.  I enjoy rock climbing, riding my bicycle, and learning new things. In 2023, I rode my bicycle 10,500km across Canada from Vancouver to Cape Spear.
